Paua Shell Earrings
Paua Shell Earrings are created with pewter hammertone rings encircling abalone paua shell coin beads. These stunning paua shell beads have a rainbow glossy finish that flashes a variety of colors as these shells turn and twist with your every move. Reminiscent of a far away island in the middle of a turquoise sea, these earrings are part of our Turquoise Island Collection.
Paua is a Maori name used to describe abalone (an edible type of sea snail) found in the coastal waters off New Zealand. To Maori, paua shell is precious, much like we treasure a ruby or jade, and is a valued resource for arts and crafts. Paua are symbolically used as the eyes of ancestors looking down upon us from the dark night heavens. Paua shell has iridescent shades of lavender, purple, aqua blue and turquoise green with flashes of silvery gray.
